  It seems that we might live in historic times…all the planets in The Solar Sistem are warming,not just ours…which means that it's not because of the human overpupulation that lows resurces and rise the CO2 level.It might be a part of it,but apparently they are changes on all the planets,changes that are believed to have not occured in thousands of years…science may not be so accurate…I believe that the 2012 prediction is mostly based on the Maya calendar,wich finishes…but what about Nasa that tells us about a major planet or asteroid impact…This has happent in the past with our planet…it is logical if you look at it that way…Floods,'raining with fire'-asteroid hits,earthquakes…the planet has it's own way to escape us:P If you look at it from the Earth's point of view,many of us are not so friendly,and we should be shaken a little,so the planet can breathe….it is obvious that everytime it has happent someone got out,someone escaped…someone told the story…not to mention that they have preoven it scientifically…but it is possible to name a year as The year? A whole range of countries are building Doomsday Vaults,underground facilities or located in mountains to keep seeds protected in case of a disaster…My question is why now?Why all of them are planned to be finished before 2011?What is happening?

  I know you know as little as I do,but maybe we'll hear some interesting opinions…they said on tv that the safest place to be if it happens is in caves,underground tunnels or plain land…no buildings…away from the oceans..but would we want to survive in a world without art,music,technology,a warm bed…a world were people become hunters again and kill each other?

  Just a tought of mine…hope to hear some other interesting points of view..

   something real, not sci-fi or doomsday garbage, and I guarantee you will look at the whole 2012 thing differently.

   90% of what you said simply isn't true. Its not subject to opinion, its just false. I think it stems from a deep distrust of Government. I can't blame you for that, but what you DO with your distrust I DO blame you for.

   Let me try again:

   Earth no go splat.

   The whole problem with this 2012 doomsday theory is that people just repeat 'facts' without checking up on them. NASA tells us that there is no known large object on a collision course with Earth. Norway has constructed a seed vault but it is an international project. Please name the other countries which you say are constructing 'doomsday' vaults. You won't be able to. Who predicts a pole shift in 2012? No recognised scientific body, only cranks and hoaxers. What are these changes on all the planets which haven't occurred in thousands of years? Please supply references to the relevant studies. Don't you think it would be difficult for anyone to know what was happening on the planets a thousand years ago, before the invention of the telescope, when they all appeared as dots in the sky?
   If you're making all this up, then you haven't done a very good job. If you've copied it all from some crank website, then you need to be a little more discerning.

   The human race has been on this planet for only a tiny fraction of time in the history of the world. Only a handful of history changing events have occurred in the 4 billion years the Earth has been here. For us to anticipate or predict a major world changing catastrophe would occur in our lifetimes is beyond improbable. It would be like winning a lottery where you have to match a billion numbers. The only thing that might happen would be the human race wiping itself out via nukes, disease or famine. We aren't going to wake up tomorrow to find the world is getting rid of us with natural disasters. Nothing happens fast, eventually the human race will go extinct, but none of us will ever see it.

   Pole Shifting:

   Poles of any planet shift very slowly and gradually, never all at once. Any theory stating that a Pole Shift will instantly happen on one day and everything dies, is wrong. Our real Poles are actually moving as we speak, it's just something natural that occurs because Pole Shifting happens about every 26,000 years. An example of them moving is like a hundredth of a millimeter, which means nobody has anything to worry about.

   Asteroid Impacts:

   Asteroid impacts are only common in the early years of a planet. However, they can still occur anytime during the lifetime of a planet. An Asteroid impact would be complete probability, its not something that just sets itself up since the beginning of time. Basically, it could happen anytime anywhere. There is no specified time for an Asteroid to hit something. Look up Impact Cratering for more information; this process helped to form almost every planet as we know it.

   CO2 Levels:

   The levels of CO2 in Earth have been on the rise, but not a whole lot. What a lot of people don't know, is that the warming and cooling of the Earth is a normal function of this planet and almost all planets, in our Solar System at least. Don't be too alarmed over this, it is bound to happen. The only thing we can control is our man-made emissions, which have actually made not too big of an impact at all on the warming of Earth; studies have been done, look them up.

   Flash Floods and Earthquakes:

   Sometimes flooding is caused by heavy rain. Sometimes flooding is caused by a large movement in the ocean, which causes a Tsunami, which then causes a flood. Heavy rain is caused by more water absorption and condensation because of heat in our atmosphere. If there were such a worldwide flood, there would have to be extreme heat for the first type of flooding that I mentioned. The extreme heat would only come if there were a Greenhouse Effect, which would mean that there is an overabundance of CO2 in our atmosphere that is trapping all heat from the Sun, heating our planet to the max. If a Greenhouse Effect were to begin, people would just die because the heat that it would produce, would be unlivable. Therefore, the first type of flooding would not happen. As for the second type of flooding, involving Earthquakes (Plate Tectonics causing Tsunamis). Well, if this type of massive flooding were to occur, the Earth's plates would all have to shift in very close periods of time, causing massive ocean movements (Subduction). However, we'd then have huge ocean volcanoes and ridiculous Earthquakes. Now, that could never happen because tectonic plates technically move every year and throughout the year; from a millimeter up to five inches a year. That means, these movements are gradual and not sporadic uprisings. That means, no flash floods and super floods worldwide, so our second idea is false again.

   Earthquakes:

   As mentioned above, these are the vibrations felt from Earth's tectonic plates shifting slowly. Since they move year around, every year, massive worldwide Earthquakes would not happen because everything is a slow, gradual process. Not abrupt and groundbreaking…no pun intended.

   In conclusion, the whole (all theories) 2012 apocalypse is a mere imagination that will never happen. The facts prove otherwise…besides, why this date?

   There's no valid scientific prediction about a doomsday event in the 2012-2015 period.
   planets are not getting warmer
   asteroid hits happen every day.
   the earth doesn't have a collective mind and doesn't wish to get rid of us, and if it did, it would not have any power to control asteroid hits. the closest thing to a conscious planet i can think of is the Gaia hypothesis, but that dictates that all homeostatic processes are not teleological (intentional).
   what has been proven scientifically?
   we won't call it "The year"
   no countries are taking any preventions at all.
   we can do without art and music.. sure it would suck, but they would be the easiest things to retrieve anyway.
   people won't be hunting and killing each other AFTER 2012.. perhaps a bunch of lunatics will during the equinox but damn they would look stupid!

   1) The planets in the solar system aren't all warming, or at least not to the degree that the earth is. Fluctuations in overall temperature are normal for any planet, but no other planet is experiencing massive melting and breaking off of polar ice caps, increases in ocean temperature, severe weather changes, etc.

   2) The Mayan calendar doesn't predict that the world will end in 2012. 21/12/2012 is the end of the calendar's current cycle, and the final entry is incomplete, but seems to be indicating a spiritual ascension of some sort. In any case, there's no reason to believe that the Mayans would be capable of predicting the end of the world. They couldn't even predict their own demise.

   3) Polar shifts are normal, and have happened numerous times throughout history without wiping out life. They have nothing to do with asteroids, comets, solar flares, etc. Another one is bound to happen eventually (over a gradual period of time), but it will only affect our electronics and such, particularly GPS systems. It's very unlikely that it would kill us all off. It's also quite unlikely that such a shift will occur anytime within the immediate future.

   I really wouldn't worry about it.

    Check your own facts first, before I have to do it. Most of it is wrong and most likely gathered from pages and videos which are pure invention. Like for example the myth of the doomsday vaults. Fiction, and the people who created the hoax actually admitted it once before noticing their error and deleting the unveiling passage from their homepage.

    Many planets actually have global cooling for example, as the power output of the sun in the last decades dropped.

    The Maya calendar does not end. Only one digit of the Maya calendar is limited to 0 – 17in decimal form, the rest runs from 0 to 19 (not 1-12, like the idiots claim… these people can't count in mesoamerican numbers). And the limitation to 0 – 17 has a good reason: 18 * 20 = 360 is roughly the length of one solar year. The other numbers are just counting and you even have no limits on how many digits you use. The Maya did just rely on six digits already when their civilization ended – without them predicting their fate.

    They even have announcements for the October 21, 4772 AD – King Pacal of Palenque will still be remembered and celebrated on this day. Possible they are right….

    When we approached the end of 1999, had you been among the people who believed that the world will end because a few computer programs in the world might reset to 00…?

    Also, feel assured, if we have a collapse of civilization, you will likely not be among the survivors. Your survival guidelines are just the fastest way to commit painful suicide.

    So again as reminder: Doomsday is not even close yet. There is no evidence that it will happen in 2012. The Chance for the world to end in 2012 is actually just as high as the chance for the same event in 2009. But… who am I telling this?

    Believe what you want, be scared to death and buy a Mayan totem and the "Doomsday 2012" book to be sure you will be among the people who deserve to be saved.

    I believe the real climax of 2012 will be the European Football Championship. And this is sure not the end of the world.

    No offense intended, but you know a lot less than I know. The solar system as a whole is not warming. Where on earth did you get that idea? There is no impending impact by another planet or "major" asteroid. Where on earth did you get that idea? YouTube? "it is obvious that everytime it has happent someone got out,someone escaped…someone told the story…not to mention that they have preoven it scientifically…" where did you get this non-sense?

    As a mathematician, I am troubled by the real lack of science-math "common sense" so many people appear to have.
