Question by Nikki: Is the world going to end in 2012?
I've heard rumors that the world is going to end in December 2012? How accurate are these predictions? Anyone familiar with any other Nostradamus predictions?

There was a thing on the history channel talking about a "lost book" with an illustration of a scorpio, our galaxy, and the year 2012. They said that it was weird that in the 14th century our galaxy had a spiral shaped core because there had been no telescopes existing at that time….Also something about other "Doomsday Prophecies" being in 2012…

Thoughts anyone? It's supposed to be quite terrifying… I read this website too. http://survive2012.com/index.php/geryl-pole-shift.html

Yes, because the 2012 phenomenon is a present-day cultural meme proposing that cataclysmic or transformative events will occur in the year 2012. The forecast is based primarily on what is claimed to be the end-date of the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, which is presented as lasting 5,125 years and as terminating on December 21 or 23, 2012. Arguments supporting this dating are drawn from a mixture of amateur archaeoastronomy, alternative interpretations of mythology, numerological constructions, and alleged prophecies from extraterrestrial beings.

A New Age interpretation of this transition posits that, during this time, the planet and its inhabitants may undergo a positive physical or spiritual transformation, and that 2012 may mark the beginning of a new era. Conversely, some believe that the 2012 date marks the beginning of an apocalypse. Both memes have been disseminated in numerous books and TV documentaries, and have spread around the world through websites and discussion groups. The idea of a global event occurring in 2012 based on any interpretation of the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar is rejected as pseudoscience by the scientific community, and as misrepresentative of Maya history by Mayanist scholars.

There's absolutely no proof in any way that our world will end in 2012. The Mayan calendar ends at that date simply because they didn't feel a need to project beyond that point, which was already far in the future when it was first created.

I'm not sure what you're referencing on the History Channel, but I know they've made the unfortunate habit of airing episodes on conspiracy theories, which I think they just use as filler material and a way to hook viewers.

There's no accuracy whatsoever to anything Nostradamus has said—it was all very unclear and vague on purpose, as all prophecies are, so that it can be interpreted to mean and correlate to any given event.

Further, I'm not sure there is a way to accurately predict pole reversals. They happen with relative frequency, yes, but I'm reasonably sure we are not due for one. The website seems to be filled with your standard run-of-the-mill pseudoscientific conspiracy theory fluff. It's entertaining at best, and criminally ignorant and misleading at worst.

    No, it will not end.

  3. MarcuS Says:

No way is the world going to end.

They thought it was going to end at the turn of the century (2000 Y2K)
They also though it was going to end on 06-06-06 but guess what it didnt.
Theres just a lot of dumb people that believe in whatever the tv says.

In 2012 some stars and constellations or someting is going to line up which usually only happens like every 1000 years or something.

Om Shanti. Yes, the world just like any other creation eventually has to end. For
example , our earth can only sustain life as long as the sun continues to shine, which probably will last for few million years more. When the suns fuel is exhausted, the earth will be enveloped in an eternal darkness. That is Armageddon. . Om Shanti.

  5. The Daydreamer Says:

Yes, it is good practice to believe every ridiculous thing you read. Good luck during the Apocalypse.

I have heard this rumors every day again since I participate on this website. The "predictions" can't be accurate, since we would have to wait until 2012 to test them precisely. But we can look at the inputs for these claims and then decide how much trust we can put in such predictions:

    1. Nostradamus never predicted anything. It is always claimed AFTER something happened, that Nostradamus predicted it, but NEVER before. And saying that something is going to happen is the definition of prediction. You can't predict without saying it before it happened.

    2. Interestingly, History Channel has found this "lost" book. Where did they hide it? In a box in their basement? The key question is: Does this book exist? And does it claim to show a galaxy or is it just a spiral-like drawing of something that people claim today, shows a galaxy?

    3. There are dozens of contradicting predictions for why 2012 should end. After it got destroyed because Planet X passed by, it will get destroyed because Nibiru will crash into it and both still fight to be the first to end the world before the galactic alignment brings doom over us all. Notice something?

    4. Survive2012 is run by a snakeoil seller, who only jumped on the 2012 train after it became a hype. He uses the scare and stupidity of the visitors of his website to sell you over-prized survival gear, which you can also get for a fraction of the price at your local military surplus gear store, and stupid videos, which attempt to make you more stupid than the guy who operates the homepage.

If you filter his nonsense through a working brain:

"In 2012 the next polar reversal will take place on earth. This means that the North Pole will be changed into the South Pole. Scientifically this can only be explained by the fact that the earth will start rotating in the opposite direction, together with a huge disaster of unknown proportions. "

Scientifically, this can only be explained by serious violations of drug laws in his country. Ever seen a planet do that?

"In my books I reveal the immense cataclysm that is going to torment the earth in the near future."

Means: Buy more of my books, because I need a new Porsche. Delivered after 2012, idiots.

"It is presently assumed by most people and the general scientific world at large, that the rotation of the Earth is stable, however, as expounded in my previous works on this subject, this is not the case."

Means: My previous works can be bought on this homepage. I also need a new garage for my Porsche.

"The gruesome reports of the previous catastrophes should, hopefully, be clear to all."

Previous catastrophes! This now allows us to do some fact checking, after the introduction.

"The historical exploration of cosmology in previous books is founded on the translation of hieroglyphs, cracking of codes, unveiling of the magnetic reversal of the sun, study of old maps, decoding of astronomical clues, geological research, and the discovery of the most exciting archaeological find in modern times. "

Stop talking, give us the evidence.

"With clock-like regularity, sudden reversals and pole shifts are natural to the Earth. The result is worldwide destruction, and is supported by paleo-magnetic evidence and early manuscripts."

    Is it like that?

    http://physicsworld.com/cws/article/news/24464

Note that we had the last reversal 780,000 years ago. At that time, humans already started to walk over Earth. Obviously, it can't have been the end of the world, since we still exist. And many other kinds of animals.

There is no, absolutely no correlation between mass extinction events and geomagnetic reversals.

And there is a mechanism known, which could explain why the reversal does not cause the claimed serious trouble.

    Next one please:

"The reversal of the poles is attributed to the harmonic cycle of the magnetic fields of the sun."

The magnetic fields of the sun reverse about every 11.5 years – the geomagnetic reversals happen about every 250,000 years. The magnetic field reversals of the sun are also not using the same physical mechanism as geomagnetic reversals. On the sun, the magnetic field becomes more powerful during a reversal.

There is no correlation between geomagnetic and heliomagnetic reversals.

"Polar reversals can be calculated precisely on the basis of the sunspot cycle theory or the magnetic field theory, which the Maya and the Old Egyptians were privy to. These secrets are contained in the Labyrinth of Hawara, a huge complex consisting of three thousand rooms. "

Heliomagnetic reversals can be calculated by the sunspot cycle, since sunspots are regions of increased magnetic activity. But this does not work on Earth, since Earth has no Earthspots.

The Maya and the Egypts did not know magnetism and both had not been aware of sunspots. Th

  8. Bag of Hammers Says:

The only thing in all this that is true is that the current version of the Mayan long count of days will end soon, mostly thought to be 21 or 23 December 2012.

Everything else is a direct lie

Mayans predicted it – direct lie

Mayans knew anything about galaxies -direct lies.

Planets line up – direct lie

Some galactic line up – direct lie

Nostradamus – direct lies, all of them.

    Merlin – direct lie

    Mother Shipton – direct lie

Bible Codes – direct lie and they have been known to be faked since at least 1998.

Planet X – direct lie, it failed to do us in in 2003 so the woman who invented it postponed it till 2012 to fit in with the Mayan calendar nonsense.

Nibiru – direct lie, even the fraud who made it ups says it won't be back till after 2085

Timewave Zero – complete nonsense and a direct lie. The inventor was a drug addled numerologist.

    Web bot – direct lie

Revelation predicts it – direct lie

Old Testament prophets predict it – direct lie

    Photon belt – direct lie

It all started with some relatively innocent new age drivel about the Mayan calendar supposedly ending and there would be some kind of shift of human consciousness.

That was not scary enough to sell survival supplies, disaster shelters, guns, books, DVDs and nonsensical documentaries to unscrupulous TV transmitters. So it got turned into the end of the world for commercial purposes. Profit is the only motive, the source of the profits are gullible kids and adults who are – well you know.

The History Channel is really NOT about history. It's about good ratings.

The web site you posted is completely BOGUS!

2012 is a complete 100% junk science internet hoax; usually believed by people who did poorly in their science classes!

The planets NEVER ACTUALLY ALIGN. Their orbits prevent an actual straight line alignment.

Planet X does not exist anywhere in the sky. No where on the internet can you find the sky coordinates for this fake planet. It is not hiding behind the sun (we orbit the sun ), it is NOT visible from the Southern Hemisphere. We can see in every direction with our telescopes.

No near Earth objects are headed our way for a catastrophic impact in 2012.

The Earth and sun "line-up" on the center of the galaxy every year on December 21st! We are actually 6 degrees away from the center MOVING AWAY!

The whole thing is a complete hoax. Watch the famous astronomer Neil Tyson make fun of the 2012 hoax.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJjQMwEjC…

and READ what NASA's scientists think about this 2012 nonsense:
    http://astrobiology.nasa.gov/ask-an-astr…

As for the Mayans; they believed that the Earth was flat and had 4 corners. They also believed that the sky was held up by 5 large trees each one a different color, and believed the Earth rested on the back of a giant crocodile! They worshiped the SUN god!

Are any of these other Mayan beliefs actually TRUE?

    Good GRIEF!

Well the world could end any second now… But no probally its not going to end 2012 just because of some predictions. The world didn't end in 2000 like they said it would.
